PRACTICE
AREAS
DWI
I defend clients charged with DWI every day. In North Carolina, DWI cases have their own separate procedural rules, substantive law and punishments that are different from all other types of criminal cases. My practice focuses on agressively defending motorists who have been charged with DWI. I have won DWI cases by attacking all aspects of the case, including successfully arguing that the officer did not have justification to stop or encounter my client, that the license check was unlawful, that the officer did not have probable cause to arrest my client, that the test was not administered properly, that the test results were invalid, that my client was not property advised of their rights, that my client was denied contact with their witness, that the State could not prove appreciable impairment, that the State could not prove my client was driving, that my client's bond was established improperly and that my client was improperly held in jail following their arrest.
Felonies
I have decades of experience representing clients charged with all types serious felonies, including:
-
Sex Offenses
-
Kidnapping
-
Murder
-
Drug Trafficking
-
Habitual Felon Status
-
Larceny
-
Embezzlement
-
Felony Habitual DWI
-
Possession of Heroin, Cocaine, Opiates and Marijuana
-
Sale of Heroin, Cocaine, Opiates and Marijuana
-
Assault with Intent to Kill
-
Assault with Serious Bodily Injury
Misdemeanors
I have very extensive experience in handling all types of misdemeanor cases including larceny cases, drug & alcohol cases and assaults. I can usually obtain a favorable result without the need for a trial, but I am always ready and willing to fight to protect my client at trial.
Drug Offenses
I am experienced in represting clients charged with every type of drug case - from trafficking heroin, opium and cocaine to simple possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. I know the law and use it to protect my clients' interests.
Traffic Tickets
I have sucessfully represented thousands of motorists charged with speeding, causing an accident, failing to stop at a stop sign or red light, reckless driving and other vehicle related offenses. I am usually able to have speeding cases and many other infractions amended to a completely non-moving violation preventing points from being assessed against your license and insurance.
Bond Motions &
Property Bonds
Regardless of whether the charges are pending in District or Superior Court I can pursue a motion to attempt to have the bond significantly reduced.
I can assist you in using your real estate to post a bond to avoid the need for hiring a bail bondsman. I will perform a title search and prepare the documents needed to pledge the real property as security for the bond.
Expunctions
An expunction is a process that can allow arrest and court records to be erased. After and expunction you are not required to acknowledge that you were ever charged with a crime in the first place. If you have had a criminal charged dismissed it will still show up on your criminal background check unless you take the extra step of having the case expunged.
Probation Violations
A probation violation should never be taken lightly. If your probation were to be revoked you would be sent to jail. I can help you prepare and to present your best possible defenses to probation violation cases in District and Superior Court.
ABOUT WILLIAM
I wanted to become a lawyer fom the time that I was in the fifth grade. When I was 17 years old I attended college courses at night to earn credits to skip my senior year of high school. I obtained my college degree at Clemson University in four years earning a place on the Dean's List and then graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law with honors. I passed the North Carolina Bar Exam on the first try in 1994 and have been zealously defending clients for the last 21 years. I have always focused my law practice on defending clients who have been charged with criminal or traffic offenses.
I am BOARD CERTIFIED AS A SPECIALIST in CRIMINAL LAW by the North Carolina State Bar.
I provide aggressive, experienced and knowledgeable representation at a reasonable fee.
I offer very competitive fees and I will always quote my fee in advance after I have discussed the charges and the facts of the case with you. Most cases are handled with a flat fee so that there are no surprises if the case takes longer to resolve than expected.
I accept most major credit cards and can usually offer a payment plan if I am hired at the beginning of the case.
I always prefer speaking to you directly to discuss your case. Criminal cases involve too many important details to attempt to communicate by email at the beginning of a case. CALL ME. I am always happy to provide a free initial telephone consultation to discuss your case and to explain my services and fees.
